2025 – PAGE 347 – VACCINES, IMMUNIZATIONS AND CONTRAINDICATIONS
ANAPHYLAXIS MANAGEMENT
Anaphylaxis after immunization is very rare, occurring in less than one in a million doses. If anaphylaxis does occur after a vaccination, the patient must get allergy skin testing to the individual components before being re-vaccinated; referral to an allergist would definitely be appropriate!
THIMEROSAL ALLERGY
Thimerosal is no longer used in any childhood vaccines other than certain influenza vials (multi-dose vials). In general, if you see this as an answer choice, you can probably just ignore/eliminate it.
COMPLETE CDC GUIDE
In case you still have questions, two links are included below. One is the current CDC guide to contraindications and precautions to commonly used vaccines. The other is a guide to conditions commonly misperceived as contraindications to vaccination. My recommendation is that you memorize the above section and avoid getting too confused with the links below. They are included for you in case you have burning questions that just “have to be answered” before you can move on. The second link could be especially confusing.
